The feel of real wood, beautiful grain patterns – Puufi’s unique wooden products are handcrafted with skill and care. Puufi is a company founded by two young entrepreneurs from Ylöjärvi, Finland. They create high-quality, one-of-a-kind wooden products designed to last for generations. Their selection includes tables and smaller home items made from various wood species, all tailored to customer needs and wishes.
The collaboration between Selka and Puufi began when Puufi was looking for metal bases to pair with their handcrafted tabletops:
“Not long after we started making tabletops, customers began asking for metal bases to go with them. The bases needed to be sturdy enough for solid wood tops, but also well-designed and user-friendly,” explains Roni, one of Puufi’s founders.
Together with Selka’s product designer, the solution started to take shape.
The project moved forward quickly. Selka first introduced 3D images of existing base models. For Puufi, it was important that the table legs wouldn’t get in the way of chairs or people sitting – the table needed to be comfortable to sit around. A round table can accommodate many people if the base doesn’t obstruct seating. Puufi’s tabletops typically range from 120 to 160 cm in diameter. A solid wood top of that size is quite heavy, so the base needs to be stable.
Selka’s Flatbase, Trumpetti, and 3-leg models appeared to be suitable options. These were presented to the end customer, and eventually, a custom 4-leg version was developed based on the 3-leg model, with an additional support frame added underneath the top.
